  Free Programs
When downloading free programs (Adobe Reader, Java, etc.), pay attention to the extra programs that may be included in the install. Sometimes, these extras duplicate programs you already have.

Ex: If you already have an anti-virus program, you don't want to download another free one as they may conflict with each other.

  Protect Your Email Account
Email accounts aren't terribly difficult to hack. Be wary of any message from your email provider that asks for your user name and password. Your email provider already has that information and most likely this is actually from someone else.

This is called "phishing", as in the bad guys are fishing for information. Do not respond to the messages or click the links in them.

Additionally, if you receive a message from your email provider with a link asking you to update your information, do not click that link. Instead open your email settings and see if there are any messages there.
